Which RIB gate motor suits your gate

Start with the gate type and its weight. This narrows it to one or two models before anything else matters.

What the K number means on a RIB sliding gate motor

On the sliding range the number is simply the maximum gate weight in kilograms. K400 takes 400 kg, K500 takes 500 kg, K800 takes 800 kg. It is the clearest naming in this trade and there is nothing hidden in it.

Above K800 the range continues through K1400 to K2200 for commercial gates, and the SUPER series to 3,600 kg for industrial entrances.

What FAST means on a RIB gate motor

A FAST suffix means the same operator geared to run at roughly double the standard speed, on the same weight rating.

Faster is not automatically better. A heavy leaf moving quickly puts more load on the rack and the pinion, and it hits its stops harder. On a quiet villa gate the standard version is the sensible choice. On a compound entrance where cars queue at the gate, FAST earns its place. Tell us how busy the entrance is and we will advise.

RIB swing gate motors, where the names do not tell you the size

The KING range is worth reading carefully, because the model names run in an order most people guess wrong.

KING EVO is the smallest, plain KING sits in the middle, and KING EVO L is the largest. Nothing in the names suggests that order, and it is the most common source of confusion when someone orders a RIB swing operator from a parts list rather than a survey.

RIB sliding gate motors, the K series

All the K series operators are irreversible, which means the gate holds its position without a separate lock. They run on 230V, drive through a rack fitted along the gate leaf, and slow down as they approach each end of travel rather than stopping abruptly.

They also carry a heat probe that pauses the motor when it has been working hard and lets it run again once cooled. In an Omani summer on a busy gate you will occasionally see this. It is the motor protecting itself, not a fault, and it is worth knowing before you call anyone out.

RIB barriers for car parks and compound entrances

RAPID covers booms up to 6 metres and opens in around 6 seconds, which suits a villa compound or a small car park. INDUSTRIAL handles booms up to 12 metres, opening in about 16 seconds, for wider commercial and industrial entrances.

Measure the width you actually need to close before choosing, since boom length is what decides the model. See gate barriers.

RIB remotes, photocells and spare parts

SUN is the RIB remote range, supplied as a two channel transmitter so you can control a second device from the same fob. FIT SLIM photocells handle the safety beam across the entrance, BLOCK is the key selector for entry without a remote, and SAIL is the flashing warning light.

Before ordering a spare remote, tell us your motor model. RIB has revised its radio coding over the years and not every SUN version pairs with every board, and we would rather check than let you find out at the gate.

Which RIB motor do I need for my gate?
For a sliding gate, match the K number to your gate weight in kilograms. For a swing gate, match the KING model to your leaf length and weight. Send us both figures and we will confirm.

What is the difference between KING EVO and KING EVO L?
KING EVO is the smaller unit, for leaves up to 4 metres and 400 kg. KING EVO L is the largest in the range, for leaves up to 7 metres and 700 kg. The names do not run in an obvious order, so check the rating rather than the name.

What does FAST mean on a RIB motor?
It is the same operator geared to roughly double speed on the same weight rating. It suits busy entrances rather than quiet villa gates.

Why does a RIB motor stop on a hot afternoon?
The K series has a heat probe that pauses the motor after prolonged use and resumes once it cools. On a busy gate in an Omani summer this is normal protection, not a fault.
