What the number means on a Sommer garage door opener

This is the decode that makes the whole range readable. The model number is the pulling force in Newtons.

So a 2080 is not “a newer 2060”, it is a stronger one. Match the number to the door, not to the year you think it came out.

base, evo+ and pro+ are feature levels, not power levels

The second half of the naming trips people up more than the first. base, evo+ and pro+ describe the control unit, not the motor.

A 2060 pro+ and a 2060 evo+ pull exactly the same 600 N. What pro+ adds is the more advanced control unit, with optimised speed profiles and precise setting of the operating forces. base is the entry level.

Read a Sommer opener name as two separate facts: the number tells you how hard it pulls, the suffix tells you how clever the electronics are. Choose the number for your door and the suffix for your budget.

Direct drive, and why Sommer openers are quiet

Most garage openers pull a chain or a belt through a fixed motor head. Sommer does it the other way round: the motor travels along a stationary chain.

Nothing whips, nothing slaps against the rail, and there is far less vibration transmitted into the ceiling and the room above. If your garage sits under a bedroom, this is the reason people choose Sommer over a cheaper opener, and it is worth hearing one run before you decide.

Sommer Twist swing gate motors

The Twist range covers swing gates, sized by leaf rather than by total gate weight.

All of them are self locking, so the gate holds shut without a separate electric lock, and they open to 120 degrees, which matters on a sloped or awkward driveway where a smaller arc will not clear the ground.

One thing to know before mixing models: a Twist 200E operator with a Twist 350 or XL control unit needs a separate twist XS conversion set. The 350 and XL pair freely with each other. Tell us what is already fitted and we will confirm what works with it.

868 MHz SOMloq2 radio, and why other remotes will not work

Sommer runs its radio at 868.950 MHz using SOMloq2 encryption. Nearly every Italian brand we carry, BFT, CAME, Nice, Life, Roger and RIB, runs at 433.92 MHz instead.

Two different bands means the remotes never cross. A Sommer fob will not open a BFT gate and a BFT fob will not open a Sommer garage. If you have gates and garages on different brands and want one remote for everything, tell us what is installed and we will work out what is actually achievable rather than guess.

The SOMup4 receiver holds 40 transmitters as supplied and expands to 450, which is compound territory rather than villa territory.

Sommer control units, photocells and accessories

DST-A 24 is the control unit supplied with the Twist range. 7020 photocells carry the safety beam across the entrance and 5070 is the flashing warning light. Pearl Vibe is the four command transmitter. SOMlink S2 is the service interface engineers use to configure and diagnose units.

Common questions about Sommer in Oman

What does the number mean on a Sommer garage door opener?
It is the pulling force in Newtons. A 2060 pulls 600 N, a 2080 pulls 800 N and a 2110 pulls 1100 N. Match the number to your door size and weight.
