Somfy in Oman

Somfy has been making tubular motors in Cluses, in the French Alps, since 1969, and it is the largest manufacturer of them in the world. If a shutter, an awning or a blind moves by motor anywhere, there is a reasonable chance Somfy built it.

What we carry

• Ilmo tubular motors for rolling shutters, in the sizes that fit standard drums
• Elixo sliding gate operators
• Ixengo swing gate operators, linear and articulated
• Remote handsets and wall controls

Tubular motors, which is what Somfy is really for

A tubular motor sits inside the drum the shutter rolls onto. Nothing is visible, nothing hangs off the wall, and it is quiet. Somfy makes them in a range of torques so the motor can be matched properly to the weight of the curtain rather than approximately.

That matching is the whole job. An underspecified tubular motor on a heavy steel shutter will run for a season and then stall, and because it lives inside the drum, replacing it means taking the shutter down. Get it right the first time and it runs for a decade.

If your shutter is a wide steel shop front rather than a domestic roller, it very likely needs a side motor instead. See rolling shutter motors for the difference.

Gates

Elixo and Ixengo are competent, well finished operators with good app integration if you want the gate on your phone. On a heavy industrial gate we would point you at BFT, CAME or FAAC instead, and we will say so rather than sell you the wrong machine.

Send us the shutter width, the height and what the curtain is made of, and we will size the motor at no cost.
