Somfy’s installation guide sets the area of application as sliding gates up to 500 kg and 30 manoeuvres a day. That is a light duty figure. A family villa fits comfortably. A shared entrance, a shop gate or a staff car park does not.
Seller pages call this motor a residential model and stop there. The 30 manoeuvre figure is the number to check against how your gate is really used.

Somfy sells two Elixo 500 motors with the same weight rating. The plain 230V version is rated for 100 operations a day, against 30 for the 3S. This page is the 3S. If your gate is busy, ask us before you order.
Somfy Elixo 500 3S RTS back up battery for power cuts
The pack includes a 9.6V back up battery. Somfy lists it at 5 to 10 cycles over 24 hours, depending on the gate. The charge time is 48 hours. The manual release key also moves the gate by hand.
Rubber safety block at the end of the gate
Somfy requires a passive rubber block on the leading end of the gate. Reference 9014597 is for gates up to 300 kg. Reference 9014598 is for 300 to 500 kg. The pack does not include one, so we quote it with the installation.
Somfy Elixo 500 3S RTS in Oman heat, dust and salt air
Somfy lists this motor for use from minus 20°C to plus 60°C, and rates it IP44. IP44 covers splashes and objects over 1 mm, but not fine dust. On the coast, wipe salt off the cover. In dusty areas, keep the rail and the rack clear.
Somfy RTS or io, which remote works
This motor uses Somfy RTS radio on 433.42 MHz and remembers 40 channels. Somfy io remotes use a different frequency, 868 to 870 MHz, and will not work with it. If you already own Somfy RTS remotes, they can be added. Tell us the remote model.

Installing a Somfy Elixo 500 3S RTS sliding gate motor in Oman
Somfy asks for a straight, level rail and wheels that carry the gate. It also wants end stops on the ground at both ends. Our engineer checks all three first. We measure the gate force to EN 12445 as Somfy requires.
Then we fix the motor, set the rack about 2 mm clear of the pinion and fit the limit brackets. Auto programming runs two full open and close cycles to learn the speed, the torque and the slowdown zones.
