Heat protection on a 500kg sliding gate motor in Omani summer
The K500 carries a heat probe that temporarily interrupts the cycle when the motor has been working hard, and a maximum operating temperature of plus 55°C.
On a busy compound gate in July, that probe will occasionally stop the gate mid afternoon and let it run again once the motor has cooled. That is the motor protecting itself, not a fault. Owners who do not know this replace working motors.
You will also see “self heated motor for low temperature operation” listed as a feature of this unit. That is real, and it is designed for European winters. In Oman it does nothing for you. The figure at the other end of the range is the one that matters here.
The 60 percent duty cycle is generous for this weight class and suits a gate that opens many times a day.

RIB sells this operator in two speeds. The K500 FAST runs at roughly double the standard speed. A faster gate is not automatically better, a heavier leaf moving faster puts more load on the rack and the pinion, but on a busy entrance where cars queue it makes a real difference.

Check your gate length against the included rack
The kit includes 4 metres of rack, four 1 metre sections. Rack runs the full length of the gate leaf, so a leaf longer than about 4 metres needs additional sections. Measure your leaf and tell us the length before ordering, so the right amount goes out with the motor rather than being discovered short on fitting day.

Why does my gate stop working on hot afternoons?
The K500 has a heat probe that pauses the motor when it has been working hard, then lets it run again once cooled. On a busy gate in an Omani summer this is normal protection, not a fault.
What is the difference between the K500 and the K500 FAST?
The FAST version runs at roughly double the speed. Both handle the same 500 kg. Tell us how busy the entrance is and we will advise which suits.
Is the included rack enough for my gate?
The kit includes 4 metres. A gate leaf longer than that needs extra rack sections, which we stock. Measure your leaf before ordering.
Will it hold my gate closed without a lock?
Yes. It is an irreversible operator, so the gate cannot be pushed open by hand when the motor is engaged.
