The Somfy Elixo Smart io is a French sliding gate motor with obstacle detection built in. It uses Somfy io radio, which is not the same as the older RTS radio. Somfy’s own documents give two different weight limits, 300 kg and 400 kg, so we size it to your gate. We stock the pack in Al Khuwair for OMR 170.000 and fit it across Oman.

Somfy’s 2020 leaflet says up to 400 kg and 6 metres. Its installation guide says 300 kg on a rail mounted gate. A self supporting gate, which has no floor rail, is limited to 200 kg and 4 metres.

Somfy io or RTS, which remote works
The Elixo Smart io uses Somfy io radio on 868 to 870 MHz. It remembers 30 one way channels, plus two way remotes without a fixed limit. Seller pages say 38 channels. Somfy’s guide says 30.
RTS remotes use 433.42 MHz and do not work with this motor. If you own RTS remotes, our Somfy Elixo 500 3S RTS is the match.
Somfy Elixo Smart io obstacle detection, no safety edge needed
Obstacle detection is built into the drive. When closing, the gate stops and reopens fully. When opening, it stops and reverses. You can adjust the sensitivity, and the installer must confirm it meets EN 12453.
Photocells are still needed if you use automatic closing. Somfy’s Elixo 800 works differently, and needs a separate safety edge.

Somfy Elixo Smart io phone control and smart home use
Somfy connects io gates to its Connexoon Access and TaHoma apps. That needs a separate Somfy box, which is not in this pack. The motor also has partial opening for pedestrians. A 500 W output can switch a garden light with the gate.
Back up battery and overheating
A 9.6V back up battery is optional. Somfy lists it at 3 cycles over 24 hours, depending on the gate, with a 48 hour charge. The key release moves the gate by hand.
If the motor overheats, its thermal cut out stops it. Somfy says switch off the power, wait about 5 minutes, and switch on again.
Somfy Elixo Smart io in Oman heat, dust and salt air
The motor is rated minus 20°C to plus 60°C, and IP44. IP44 covers splashes but not fine dust. Somfy tested it over 36,500 openings and closings, and asks for a check every 6 months. In Oman, keep the rail clear of sand.

Installing a Somfy Elixo Smart io sliding gate motor in Oman
Our engineer weighs the gate, checks the rail and wheels, and fixes the motor on its metal plate. We set the rack about 2 mm clear of the pinion.
Then we run auto programming, which learns the gate travel. Obstacle detection is off during that run, so the gate path must be clear. Last, we set the sensitivity and test the detection.

What gate weight can the Somfy Elixo Smart io move?
Somfy gives 400 kg in its leaflet and 300 kg in its guide, for a rail mounted gate. Both say up to 6 metres. A self supporting gate is limited to 200 kg.
Will my Somfy RTS remote work with the Elixo Smart io?
No. The Smart io uses Somfy io radio on 868 to 870 MHz. RTS remotes use 433.42 MHz. Somfy io remotes can be added.
Does the Somfy Elixo Smart io need a safety edge?
No. Obstacle detection is built into the drive. Photocells are needed only for automatic closing.
