What BT means, and why it matters more than the weight rating
The BT in the name tells you this is a 24V motor, not a 230V mains one. BFT uses BT for its low voltage range and AC for its mains powered range, and the difference decides something a weight rating never will.
A 24V motor takes a backup battery. Fit one and the gate still opens during a power cut. A 230V motor stops when the mains does, and your only option is the manual release key. On a villa gate that is the only vehicle access, that difference is worth more than any specification further down this page.

This is the Deimos BT A400, not the Deimos Ultra BT A400
BFT sells two motors under almost the same name and they are not the same machine.

This listing is the plain BT A400 with the HAMAL board. Both carry the same 400 kg rating, the same 12 m/min speed and the same module 4 pinion, so the specifications look interchangeable until you need a spare board or a manual. If you are cross checking against documentation, make sure it says HAMAL and not MERAK.
The IP rating, and what we actually know
Two figures are published for this motor and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Neither figure is dust tight, and that is the part worth reading twice. In Oman the bottom track and the motor housing collect blown sand, and sand in a gate mechanism raises rolling resistance, which raises current, which raises heat. Whichever figure applies to your unit, site it where driven sand does not hit it directly and sweep the track a few times a year. That does more for its life than the rating on the box.
We check the rating plate on the unit before it leaves the shop and tell you what it actually says.

D-Track is BFT’s impact processing. The control unit reads the force the motor is drawing and eases off when the gate meets resistance, rather than driving through it. It is the reason this motor slows as it approaches each end of travel instead of stopping hard.
Check your rack before you order
This motor drives a module 4 rack. If your gate already has rack fitted from an older motor, photograph the tooth profile and send it to us, because a module 6 rack will not mesh with a module 4 pinion and the two are not interchangeable.
The kit includes 4 metres of nylon rack. A gate leaf longer than that needs extra sections, which we stock in gate spare parts.

Common questions
Will it work during a power cut?
Yes, with a backup battery fitted. This is a 24V motor, which is what BT means in the name, and that is exactly what the low voltage range is for. The battery is quoted separately.
Is this the Deimos Ultra?
No. This is the plain Deimos BT A400 with the HAMAL control unit and electromechanical limit switches. The Ultra uses a MERAK board and magnetic limit switches. Both are rated to 400 kg.
Will it work with the rack already on my gate?
Only if that rack is module 4. Send us a photograph of the teeth and we will confirm before you buy, because a module 6 rack will not mesh with this pinion.
Can it handle a gate heavier than 400 kg?
No. Tell us your gate weight and we will point you to the right model in the BFT range, which runs from 400 kg up to 2,000 kg.
What is the price?
