The Nice Thor 1500 (model TH1500) is an Italian 230V sliding gate motor. It takes heavy residential gates up to 1500 kg and 12 metres. Two force limits decide whether it suits your gate. Nice Thor 1500 gate weight is not the limit that matters
Nice publishes two thrust figures for this motor. Peak thrust is 800 N, or 30 Nm. Nominal working thrust is 360 N, or 12 Nm.
Nice’s manual sets two tests. The force to start the gate moving must stay under half the peak, so 400 N. The force to keep it moving must stay under half the nominal, so 180 N. That is about 40 kg to start and 18 kg to keep going on a hand scale.
Heavy gates usually fail the second test first. Sand in the track, a bent rail or a worn wheel raises the running force without changing the weight. Many seller pages print 800 N as the working force. That is the short peak.
Cycles per hour and the residential rating
Nice gives one duty figure for the TH1500. It is 15 cycles per hour on a 6 metre leaf, with no more than 5 cycles in a row. Nice lists the motor for residential use. A heavy gate is not the same as an industrial gate.
The motor has thermal protection that stops it at 140°C. On a hot day, heavy use can pause the gate until the motor cools. A family villa sits well inside these limits. A busy yard or a shared entrance does not.
Nice Thor 1500 speed and travel time
The Thor moves the gate at 0.16 m/s. That is about 38 seconds for a 6 metre gate and about 75 seconds for a 12 metre gate.
The standard work time runs from 2.5 to over 40 seconds. A gate wider than about 6 metres needs the extended work time setting, which reaches over 80 seconds.

The Thor is rated for heavier gates, but the Nice Robus 1000 pulls harder on both thrust figures. A heavy gate that rolls freely suits the Thor. A stiff or long gate under 1000 kg may suit the Robus better. The force test decides.
Rack for a heavy gate
The rack must run the full length of the gate leaf. Keep it 1 to 2 mm clear of the pinion. Nice rates its standard nylon rack, ROA6, for gates up to 500 kg. For a heavy gate we quote galvanised steel rack instead. Tell us the gate weight and length and we will price it.
Nice Thor 1500 in Oman heat, dust and salt air
The Thor works from minus 20°C to plus 50°C. IP44 covers splashes and objects over 1 mm, but not fine dust. Keep the track clear and the wheels greased.
Nice asks for maintenance at the latest every 6 months. Coastal salt air and desert sand make that visit worth keeping.

Installing a Nice Thor 1500 sliding gate motor in Oman
Our engineer starts with the two force tests and checks the track and wheels. The motor sits on a foundation plate cast level in concrete. We fix the rack, set the limit brackets 2 cm past the trip point and wire the photocells.
Then we set the force, work time and closing pause, and pair the remotes. The release key moves the gate by hand in a power cut.

Yes, if it starts moving under 400 N and keeps moving under 180 N. Weight alone does not decide it. Send us your gate details and we will tell you if it suits.
Is the Nice Thor 1500 stronger than the Robus 1000?
No. It is rated for heavier gates, but the Robus 1000 has higher peak and nominal thrust. The Thor is also slower, at 0.16 m/s against 0.28 m/s.
How often can the Nice Thor 1500 open and close?
