Most gate automation guides written for Oman name a few brands and stop. This one gives you the numbers: what things actually cost in rials, what duty cycle means for a gate in a Muscat summer, and how to read a model number so you order the right motor the first time.
Everything priced below is stocked at our shop in Al Khuwair and fitted by our own engineers.
What gate automation actually costs in Oman
Start here, because it is the question everyone has and almost nobody answers. These are our current shelf prices, not estimates.
| What you need | Example | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Spare remote | Centurion Nova1 | OMR 4.000 |
| Spare remote | BFT Mitto B RCB02 | OMR 6.000 |
| Access control reader | Standalone RFID keypad | OMR 28.280 |
| Safety photocells | DEA Linear XS | OMR 32.300 |
| Rolling shutter motor | Somfy Ilmo 50 WT | OMR 50.000 |
| Heavy shutter motor | ACM Titanside 600 | OMR 105.000 |
| Sliding gate, 400 kg | Nice Robus RB400 | OMR 125.670 |
| Sliding gate, 600 kg | Beninca BULL624SW | OMR 126.000 |
| Garage door opener | LiftMaster LM80EV | OMR 136.040 |
| Swing gate, twin motor | Life Optimo OP3 UNI | OMR 188.500 |
| Sliding gate, 500 kg | RIB K500 | OMR 190.400 |
| Swing gate, sloped drive | Euromatic Compass | OMR 192.000 |
| Sliding gate, 600 kg | Roger H30/645 | OMR 209.340 |
| Swing gate, double leaf | Sommer Twist 200E | OMR 248.000 |
| Sectional garage door | Insulated door | from OMR 420.000 |
| Sliding gate, 3,500 kg | CAME BY-3500T | OMR 870.000 |
| Parking barrier | FAAC 620 | OMR 900.000 |
For a typical Omani villa, budget roughly OMR 125 to 250 for the motor kit itself. Add photocells if they are not in the kit, extra rack if your gate is long, and installation, which we quote after seeing the gate rather than guessing from a photograph.
The four types, and which one your gate needs
Sliding gate motors sit beside the gate and drive it along a rack fitted to the leaf. This is the most common villa setup in Oman because a sliding gate needs no swing room in the driveway. Rated by gate weight. See our sliding gate motors, 400 kg to 2,000 kg.
Swing gate motors push or pull each leaf open on an arm or a ram. Rated by leaf length and leaf weight, not by the total gate. See swing gate motors.
Garage door openers mount to the ceiling and pull a sectional or up and over door along a rail. Rated by pulling force in Newtons. See garage door openers.
Parking barriers raise and lower a boom across a driveway or car park. Rated by boom length. See gate barriers.
Duty cycle is the number that decides everything
Weight rating tells you whether a motor can move your gate. Duty cycle tells you how often. It is the single most ignored figure in this trade and the one that decides whether a motor lasts three years or ten.
A 30 percent duty cycle means the motor is built to run for roughly thirty minutes in any hundred, then rest. Here is what we actually stock, side by side:
| Motor | Duty cycle | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Sommer Twist 200E | 15% | Quiet villa gate, a few cycles a day |
| Life Optimo OP3 UNI | 35% | Normal villa use |
| Roger H30/645 | 50% | Busy villa or small compound |
| RIB K500 | 60% | Compound entrance |
| Beninca BULL624SW | Intensive use | Shared or commercial entrance |
Two cars, in and out twice a day, is about eight cycles. A villa gate at that rate never troubles any of these. A shared compound gate serving twelve villas is a completely different job, and putting a 15 percent duty motor on it will cost you a motor within a couple of years.
This matters more in Oman than in Europe, because a motor working hard in a July afternoon is already fighting ambient heat before it does any work at all. Most quality motors carry a thermal cutout that pauses the gate when it gets too hot and lets it run again once cooled. That pause is the motor protecting itself, not a fault. People replace working motors over it every summer.
How to read a gate motor model number
Manufacturers each use their own code and none of them explain it. Here is what the numbers actually mean on the brands sold in Oman.
| Brand | The rule | Example |
|---|---|---|
| BFT | BT is 24V with battery backup, AC is 230V mains. The A number is the gate weight | Deimos BT A400 = 400 kg, battery capable |
| RIB | The K number is the gate weight in kg. FAST means double speed | K500 = 500 kg |
| Roger | B at the front means brushless. The number after the slash is a code, not the weight | H30/645 is rated 600 kg, H30/640 is rated 640 kg |
| Sommer | The number is the pulling force in Newtons. base, evo+ and pro+ are control levels, not power | 2060 = 600 N |
| Nice | The Robus number is the gate weight | RB400 = 400 kg |
The Roger one catches people out most. 645 is a higher model number than 640 but carries a lower weight rating. Always match the full model code, never the number on its own.
Choosing by gate weight
Weigh or estimate the gate leaf, then add a margin. A gate is heavier than it looks once you count the frame, the infill and any cladding, and a motor running permanently near its ceiling wears faster than one running at half.
| Sliding gate leaf | What to buy |
|---|---|
| Up to 400 kg | Nice Robus RB400, Life ACER AC4R |
| Up to 500 kg | RIB K500 |
| Up to 600 kg | Beninca BULL624SW, Roger H30/645 |
| 800 kg and above | BFT Deimos AC 800, RIB K800 |
| Industrial, to 3,500 kg | CAME BY-3500T |
For a swing gate, measure one leaf, not the pair. Nearly every swing motor is rated per leaf, and a two leaf kit contains a motor for each side.
Remotes do not cross brands, and the reason is the frequency
This is the thing that surprises people most. A remote from one brand will not open another brand’s gate, and it is not a software lock, it is physics.
| Frequency | Brands |
|---|---|
| 433.92 MHz | BFT, CAME, Nice, Life, Roger, RIB, Beninca |
| 868.950 MHz | Sommer |
Even within the same band, brands use their own rolling code, so a CAME fob will not open a BFT gate either. If you have a gate on one brand and a garage on another and want a single remote, tell us what is installed and we will tell you honestly what is achievable rather than sell you something that will not pair.
The same applies to photocells. Our DEA Linear XS uses the common three wire connection and works with almost any control board. Our Marantec Special 630 uses a two wire system that only suits boards built for it. Not every accessory is universal.
What else you need beyond the motor
A motor on its own does not make a working gate. Budget for these too.
- Rack, for sliding gates. Most kits include 4 metres. A gate leaf longer than that needs more, and it is the most common thing people discover short on fitting day
- Photocells, the safety beam across the entrance. Some kits include a pair, some do not
- A warning light, usually included
- Extra remotes, since most kits ship with two
- Access control, if you want keypad, card or fob entry rather than only remotes. See access control systems
- Battery backup, on 24V motors, so the gate still opens during a power cut
Spares and add ons are in gate spare parts and remotes and accessories.
What Oman’s climate changes about the choice
Three things matter here that do not matter in the European catalogues these motors were designed for.
Sand raises the load. A sliding gate track fills with blown sand, the gate gets harder to push, and the motor pulls more current to move it. More current means more heat, and more heat means the thermal cutout comes on sooner. Sweeping the track and checking the wheels turn freely a few times a year does more for motor life than any specification on the box.
Buy more duty cycle than you think you need. European service intervals and duty ratings assume a milder ambient temperature. Choosing one class up costs a little more now and pays for itself.
Check the IP rating on anything exposed. Some equipment is rated for indoor or covered use only and will not survive on an open gate pillar. Ask before you fit, not after.

Frequently asked questions
How much does gate automation cost in Oman?
For a typical villa, budget OMR 125 to 250 for the motor kit, plus installation. Remotes start at OMR 4.000 and photocells at OMR 32.300. Heavy commercial motors and barriers run considerably higher.
Which gate motor brand is best for a villa in Oman?
There is no single best. Nice, BFT, Beninca, RIB and Roger are all established Italian manufacturers and any of them will last if correctly sized and installed. Matching the duty cycle to how often your gate actually opens matters far more than the badge on it.
Do gate motors work during a power cut?
24V motors can take a backup battery and keep working. 230V mains motors cannot, though every motor has a manual release key so you can open the gate by hand.
Why does my gate stop working on hot afternoons?
Most likely the thermal cutout. The motor pauses when it gets too hot and runs again once cooled. It is protection, not a fault, and it usually means the motor is undersized for how often the gate is used.
Will my old remote work with a new motor?
Almost certainly not. Brands use different frequencies and different rolling codes. Sommer runs at 868.950 MHz while most Italian brands run at 433.92 MHz.
Is sliding or swing better for a villa in Oman?
Sliding, in most cases, because it needs no swing room in the driveway and copes better with wind. Swing suits wider entrances and properties where the driveway slopes away from the gate.
Do you deliver outside Muscat?
Yes. We deliver and install across all eleven governorates from our shop in Al Khuwair.
